We made it be not with out the adventures. We had zero trouble with truck, trailer, mechanics, tires, etc. All that went without issue all the way. We flew down the road through several states praising God all the way stopping when tired for the night to sleep then continuing on.
We found a great dog friendly hotel on Fido.com on our way from Kansas into Missouri in guess where? Joplin, MO. We, for some reason could not reach the hotel on the road. The telephone was always busy. Heather was driving through a torrential downpour so we decided to just pull in to Joplin anyway. We arrived about 1.5 hours after the BIG tornado had passed through. Praise God for a few delays along the way or we would have been in Joplin in the heart of the the storm...
It was too soon after the tornado for the roads to be closed yet. There were just a few emergency crews on-sight there was just utter destruction. The power was out as far as you could see. Power lines were laying criss-crossing the streets. Trees were up rooted everywhere, and the worst part were people walking what seemed to be aimlessly. We could not stop to help as the sheriffs that were out made us move out of the way quickly. We moved on to Springfield, MO to be out of harms way.
The next day we picked up my new 2009 BMW GSA after Heather sold mine. We had a wonderful evening with the past owner John and his wife Betsy in
Cape Girardeau, MO. They graciously invited us to spend the evening, with diner, conversation and a night with them rather then in a hotel. We had a great time sharing a moment in our lives with stories, adventures and goals. Betsy is an advocate and very active member in equine rehab for the disabled and John is a anaesthesiologist in one of the local hospitals in the area. Both leading very interesting multifaceted active lives.
It was great fun and a great way to celebrate Heather's birthday tomorrow its on to Conway, AK where we are to pick up our new rig.
